One winner will be chosen from each region. They are then eligible to attend the final event where the ultimate winner is crowned.

FAQ's


Judging criteria for entering is to colour or/and cut then style hair. Stylists can either choose to colour or cut but has to style the hair with current hairstyle of their choice. The Theme is Urban Chic, and interpretation of the theme will be assessed.

All images/pictures must be in a TIFF or JPEG format with a minimum size of 2MB and a maximum size of 5MB. The photograph can be uploaded from a smart phone or digital camera, but no scans of printed photos will be accepted. These photographs do not have to be taken by a professional photographer however they do need to be clear and showcasing your work adequately.

No scans of printed photos will be accepted. Entrants must submit a photograph of the front, side and back of their look for judging purposes but front visual is a must.

Entries must be received on or before midnight 7th June 2018. Late entries will not be accepted.

The entrant must remain the same throughout the competition (from Photographic Entry stage through to the Grand Final per region).

Styles submitted photographically must have been completed in entirety by the entrant themselves
Yes, you may enter. A professional hairdresser is an individual who has studied, trained and passed a SETA accredited trade test. Hairdressers currently practising and who have not done the above are allowed to enter this competition.
You may bring your own models but the following conditions apply;
The models used at all stages of the competition must be 18 or over and have had an allergy alert test 48 hours before the product application or have completed the L’Oréal ‘Professional Safety’ protocol. This is to ensure that the models do not have an allergic reaction to the hair colour. The models will be required to sign a waiver form warranting that they conducted the patch test and had no allergic reaction thereto. Entrant must also ensure their model has signed the waiver form. This waiver must be signed and a hard copy form must be handed to the Golden Scissors Facilitator on the day of the regional event should you be chosen as a semi-finalist.

The individual entering the Dark and Lovely Golden Scissors Competition may have a team that consists of the model and make-up artist only. All members of the team must be SA residents and be 18 years or over on closing date of entry midnight 7th June 2018.
There is no limit to the products that you use but the relaxer, hair care and colour products need to be Dark and Lovely. Dark and Lovely has a wide range of products visit our website for more information www.darkandlovely.co.za
Entrants can be from any part of South Africa, the entrant must ensure that they enter the correct area based on allocated regions for the Semi Finals. All entries will be allocated to one of the six (6) regions which are Gauteng, Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Eastern Cape and Free State, and Limpopo. Entrants will need to specify the region from which they are entering.

Entrants need to ensure that when choosing region they will be available on the below dates in the below areas as this is where the semi-finals will take place. Please note that the Promoter will not be paying for transportation to and from the areas, each entrant who makes it through to the Semi Finals will be notified by telephone.

2. Western Cape Regional Final: Golden Acre 28th July 2018
3. Durban & East London Regional Final: Umlazi Mall 4th August 2018
4. Johannesburg East Regional Final: Golden Walk 25th August 2018
5. Johanessburg South & Pretoria Regional final: Carlton Center 1st September 2018
6. Bloemfontein Regional Final: Bloem Plaza 8th September 2018
You may enter the Dark and Lovely Golden Scissors Competition as many times as you wish. Each entry must qualify as a valid entry according to our Terms and Conditions.
The prizes are as stated and there are no alternatives or cash substitutes. The Dark and Lovely Golden Scissors Competition winner will receive prizes up to the value of R200,000 which consist of the following:

A cash prize;
A Course at the Dark & Lovely The Academy;
A year’s supply of Dark and Lovely products; and
An upgrade of the winner’s hair salon.

There will be Second Place Award, Consumer Award and Technical Excellence Award, to be awarded on the night.
